Serena was born and raised in Washington state. She moved to Seattle for college at the University of Washington where she met and married her husband Jason in engineering school. They have four young children, two of whom attend Providence. Prior to working at Providence, Serena was home with their kids and in her free time enjoys drinking coffee and getting outdoors with her family in all weather.

The Smiths are members at Northview Community Church in Bothell.
