Fine Art

The fine art program at Providence introduces skills, terms, and specific projects in a cyclical pattern, building memory, skill, and proficiency. In addition to application of skill, students are also introduced to historical art works and artists.

Maintaining a robust and classically-based art curriculum that compliments an academically rich schedule, allows students to engage with art and the creative process both academically and personally. Drawing from life as often as space allows, requires students’ minds to do the hard work of applying skills to observation. This disciplined and intentional observation can help students navigate the world around them with greater awe and responsibility.

For high school students in particular, learning specific entry points into talking about art is a wonderful application of the rhetorical skills being taught in other academic subjects. Learning to discuss art thoughtfully enriches their travels to significant European art museums during their Grand Tour.
